Tips for washing vegetables and fruits

April 10, 2016

Regardless of where you get your fresh vegetables and fruits, chances are they need to be washed before you use or vegetables in grocery storeeat them. The exception is packages of fresh produce that are labeled “washed”, “ready to eat” or “triple washed”. These should not be washed before use.

Should you use a special fruit and vegetable wash that you may see in stores? Some studies have shown that these are no more effective than just using clean water, so skip them and save your money to buy more fruits and vegetables.

Never use dish detergent or dish washing soap to clean your produce. While these are fine for dishes, they are not meant to be consumed and can leave residue behind on your food.
